Nemonte Nenquimo, l\u00edder ind\u00edgena ecuatoriana, fue elegida por su \u00e9xito en la protecci\u00f3n de 180 mil hect\u00e1reas de selva amaz\u00f3nica de la extracci\u00f3n de petr\u00f3leo.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ella y otros miembros del grupo ind\u00edgena Waorani llevaron al gobierno ecuatoriano a los tribunales por sus planes de vender el territorio. Su victoria legal de 2019 sent\u00f3 un precedente legal para los derechos ind\u00edgenas.<br>El premio Goldman se divide en seis categor\u00edas en funci\u00f3n de la zona geogr\u00e1fica como: \u00c1frica, Asia, Europa, las naciones insulares, Am\u00e9rica del Norte, Am\u00e9rica Central y Am\u00e9rica del Sur.
