Seg\u00fan el Ministerio del Interior en el a\u00f1o 2023, en el cant\u00f3n Dur\u00e1n (Provincia de Guayas), se registr\u00f3 un total de 450 muertes violentas, dando una tasa de 148,07 por cada 100 mil habitantes, siendo la cifra m\u00e1s elevada reportada en el pa\u00eds y en el mundo para ciudades con una poblaci\u00f3n mayor a 300 mil habitantes, superando a ciudades mexicanas como Colima y Obreg\u00f3n, pertenecientes a la lista emitida por el Consejo Ciudadano para la Seguridad P\u00fablica y la Justicia Penal (MEX).<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">En 2024, Ecuador declar\u00f3 un conflicto armado interno, lo que redujo las muertes violentas en general, pero en Dur\u00e1n las cifras de homicidios intencionales aumentaron.
